He went on a book buying binge when he served as secretary of the American Legation in Brussels, Belgium, 1861-1869. After his death on June 24, 1887, his widow invited a local newspaper reporter to inspect the 2,500 volume collection. "The Goodrich Library" appeared in the St. Paul Sunday Globe on July 17, 1887. |
