Viewing Judge Charles H. Woods (1836-1899).Judge Charles H. Woods (1836-1899).Charles Henry Woods, a twenty-nine year old lawyer and Civil War veteran, moved to Minneapolis in July 1866. The next year he was elected City Justice, another name for Justice of the Peace, and was known thereafter as "Judge." During the next three decades, he became a leader of the local bar and was active in fraternal and social societies. He died on April 16, 1899, at age sixty-two. The next year, his widow published a ninety page pamphlet containing the transcript of his funeral service, memorials passed by local bar associations, resolutions from other organizations and letters of condolence from friends.
