Benjamin G. Reynolds: "The Formation of the Seventeenth Judicial District Bar Association." (1904)

In 1897, the legislature created the Seventeenth Judicial District, which encompassed Faribault, Jackson and Martin Counties. John H. Quinn was the first judge of the district. Seven years later, on the evening of December 6, 1904, the Bar Association of the Seventeenth Judicial District was formed. Afterwards the twenty-four new members retired to the Bullard House in Fairmont for a ten course dinner. This report of that initial organizational meeting, written by the first secretary of the association, Benjamin G. Reynolds, appeared on the front page of the weekly "Faribault County Register" on December 15, 1904.

"Benton Bar Association." (1882)

The Benton Bar Association was formed in early March, 1882, in Lake Benton, Minnesota. At its second meeting on March 13, 1882, it was renamed the Lincoln County Bar Association. Early bar associations had several functions, the establishment and maintenance of professional standards being one, guarding the reputation of the profession being another. The new bar association?s minutes appeared on the front page of the "Lake Benton News" on March 21, 1882. They included a tribute to a recently deceased lawyer.

Presidents of the Fourteenth Judicial District Bar Association (2004-2009)

This is a list of the presidents of the Fourteenth Judicial District Bar Association from 2004 to the present. The names of earlier presidents are not readily available. The Fourteenth Judicial District encompasses eight counties in the northwest corner of the state: Kittson, Roseau, Marshall, Polk, Pennington, Red Lake, Norman and Mahnomen.

James Grafton Rogers: "Frank Billings Kellogg." (1932)

Frank Billings Kellogg (1856-1937) was the 35th President of the American Bar Association, serving in 1912-1913, nine years before his partner, Cordenio Severance, held that office.
This profile of Kellogg appeared in James Grafton Rogers's "American Bar Leaders: Biographies of the Presidents of the American bar Association, 1878-1928," which is comprised of sketches of the first fifty presidents of the ABA. It was published by the ABA in 1932 to commemorate its Semi-Centennial.

James Grafton Rogers: "Cordenio Arnold Severance." (1932)

Cordenio Arnold Severance (1862-1925) was the 44th President of the American Bar Association. He served in 1921-1922, only nine years after his law partner, Frank B. Kellogg, held that office.
