Book Reviews of Roger W. Cooley, "Briefs on the Law of Insurance" (First edition, 1905) (5 Volumes).

In 1905 the West Publishing Company issued "Briefs on the Law of Insurance," a monumental set of five volumes on insurance law written and complied by Roger William Cooley, a member of its staff and later an instructor at the St. Paul College of Law. In the next few years, supplements and new editions were published. All five volumes are posted on this website.

The set was reviewed in "The Central Law Journal" (January 1906). It concludes:

"Altogether, our examination of every feature of this work has convinced us that it is the greatest and most important work on the subject of insurance ever published, and as such we commend it to the profession."

A second edition was reviewed by Professor Paul Sayre in the "Indiana Law Journal" (June 1928).

In 1909 West also published Professor Cooley's edition of "Tiffany's Handbook on The Law of Persons and Domestic Relations." It too is posted on this website.

Roger William Cooley later served for many years as Dean and Professor of Law at the University of North Dakota Law School. He died on November 7, 1931, at age seventy-one.
