In a Preface he writes: "One leading object of the author has been to show both attorneys and solicitors, and their clients, what are their reciprocal rights and duties: that both parties are bound to be honorable, liberal, reasonable, and conscientious in their professional intercourse and dealings with each other; and, in a word, that the true interests of the profession and the public are identical."
