Viewing Charles Noble Gregory, "Samuel Freeman Miller" (1915)

Charles Noble Gregory, "Samuel Freeman Miller" (1915)

Samuel Freeman Miller (1816-1890) served on the United States Supreme Court from 1862 to 1890. In 1907 the State Historical Society of Iowa published the first biography of Justice Miller, written by Charles Noble Gregory, and it is posted here.

Miller has been of considerable interest to Court historians. In 1939 Charles Fairman's "Mr. Justice Miller and the Supreme Court" (Harvard University Press) was published. More recently, Michael A Ross published "Justice of Shattered Dreams: Samuel Freeman Miller and the Supreme Court during the Civil War Era" (Louisiana State University Press, 2003).
