Viewing Louis L. Manwaring (1868-1941).

Louis L. Manwaring (1868-1941).

In 1882, a year after he graduated the University of Wisconsin Law School, Louis Logan Manwaring began practicing law in Stillwater. He soon formed a partnership with George H. Sullivan and their firm became known as the leading law firm in Washington County. He served as county attorney, city attorney and judge of the municipal court. He died on November 12, 1941, at age eighty-three. In memorial services in district court the following year, he was recalled:

"Mr. Manwaring lived during the prosperous lumbering era of this community and enjoyed a successful career. He numbered among his clients the leading businessmen and companies of this community. He was a counsellor in the true sense of the word and his advice was always sound and conservative. He did not enjoy trial work and very rarely appeared in Court."
