The most famous is the first, published in 1869, 100 pages long, traces the "checkered" history of the Erie Railroad through the actions of Daniel Drew, Jay Gould, James Fisk and others. It is still worth reading. The book concludes with a 100 page history of the "Railroad System" by Charles F. Adams. Henry Adams (1838-1918) contributed five essays, including one on "The New York Gold Conspiracy" of 1869, and co-authored another. |
