Viewing Robert R. Hedenberg (1854-1917).

Robert R. Hedenberg (1854-1917).

In 1867 Robert Reinhart Hedenberg arrived in Minnesota with his family of ten. Within a few months eight had died. Several years later his mother died, leaving him alone in the new world. He persevered. He was admitted to the bar in 1879 and moved to St. Vincent in Kittson County. That year he was elected county attorney. For the next 33 years he was an elected official of Kittson County, serving one term as probate judge and the rest as county attorney. He later moved to Hallock, the county seat, where he died on May 25, 1917, at age 62. In his obituary the Hallock Weekly News lauded his contributions to the county:

"Mr. Hedenberg was a faithful officer, and Kittson county has much to thank him for its prosperity. Yea, without doubt, Mr. Hedenberg did more for Kittson county during his residence here, than any other man. Honest and sincere in all his dealings, he won the confidence of his constituents, even when he had to do to individuals, who having trespassed against the rights of the county and had to oppose them, he did it in such a way, that all feeling of discontent soon wore away. Mr. Hedenberg had no enemies. His memory will live and die with this generation; but his deeds never."
