Viewing Thovald M. Thomson (1881-1949).

Thovald M. Thomson (1881-1949).

Thorvald Mads Thomson was born in Demark on February 15, 1881. The next year he came with his parents to America. In 1898, at age 17, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served in the Spanish-American War and Philippine Insurrection until his discharge in 1901. He taught classes at several business colleges and formed his own bridge construction company in 1916. In later years he was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was the clerk of the local school board for 16 years. Following his death on April 21, 1949, at age 68, he was recalled by Jay W. Smith at memorial services for the Hennepin County Bar Association:

"Mr. Thomson was a man who delighted in public service to his friends, his community and the nation. He would insistently lay aside his remunerative professional work to help any person in need of employment. No Veteran who ever applied to him for professional help or financial aid was ever refused."
