Viewing James E. Phillips (1866-1935).James E. Phillips (1866-1935).James Phillips was awarded a B. A. from the University of Minnesota in 1894, and began teaching in the Alexandria school system. But not for long: the law called and he enrolled in the University Law School, receiving a LL.B. in 1901. He returned to his hometown, Lake City, where he practiced law and participated in numerous civic enterprises, especially those concentrating on education, until September 18, 1935, when he died at age sixty-nine. Several weeks later, the Wabasha County Bar Association presented a memorial to him in district Court. |
