"The First Trial in Freeborn County, Minnesota" (1882).

"Boulton v. Knapp," the first trial in Freeborn County, was held in January, 1857. For decades it has interested scholars of the adversarial system because it superbly illustrates the lawyer's ethical duty to be a zealous advocate for his client (s).

An account of this famous case appeared first in a county history published in 1882.
