Viewing Samuel Kirkpatrick McCaughan (1895-1958).Samuel Kirkpatrick McCaughan (1895-1958).In May 1917, one month after the United States entered World War I, Samuel K. McCaughan, an Irish emigrant who was not yet a citizen, enlisted in the United States Navy. He served three years, and was discharged. He became a citizen, enrolled in the Minnesota College of Law, graduated, and was admitted to the bar in 1923. He practiced law in Minneapolis until 1942, when duty called again. At the age of forty-seven, he re-enlisted in the Navy and served three more years. After the war, he re-located to California, and became a lawyer for a title insurance company.
