McClelland (1844-1922).A civil war veteran, Robert Henry McClelland taught school for years, read law, was admitted to the bar in 1874, practiced in Jordan, Scott County, for a decade, and finally settled in Glencoe, the seat of McLeod County in 1886. There he practiced law with Cyril Tifft, a future district court judge, or by himself for the next three decades. He was active in Republican Party affairs, was mayor of Glencoe for several terms in the late 1890s, and help publish the local newspaper. He died on March 12, 1922, at age seventy-eight. According to his obituary on the front page of The Glencoe Enterprise, "During his active years he was a power in politics and a jurist of exceptional ability." |
