Viewing John Elliott Tappan (1870-1957).

John Elliott Tappan (1870-1957).

After he was admitted to Minnesota bar on June 5, 1896, John Elliott Tappan began practicing law in Minneapolis and continued to manage Investors Syndicate, a corporation he had already organized. It was a major client of his law firms in the next three decades, and would evolve into Investors Diversified Services, a financial services behemoth. After selling his interest in Investors Syndicate in 1927, he devoted his energies to his law practice, Excelsior Baking Company, which he owned, and outdoor activities.

He died on January 16, 1957, at age eighty-six. On May 11, 1957, a tribute to him was delivered at memorial services in Hennepin County District Court by Thomas Gallagher, an Associate Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court, and a former law partner of Tappan in the 1920s.
