George N. Hillman: "Some Judges and Lawyers I Have Known" (1927).

George N. Hillman had been the official court reporter for Ramsey County for fifty-two years when he addressed the county bar association in December 1927 about judges and lawyers he had observed during his long career. He found these men interesting and sketches them as he saw them at work -- in the office, during trial. Regrettably, many are short, too short, just a sentence or two. But he has left us with first-hand accounts of how lawyers practiced, trials conducted and the transformation of the judicial system in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

He called his address "Some Judges and Lawyers I Have Known," had it printed and gave copies to members of the county bar. It is posted here.

It is an important addition to the memoirs of other lawyers and judges posted on the MLHP. These writings are now easily accessible by the public.
