Brown began practicing law in Bemidji. He became active in community affairs and served on the school board until 1918 when he joined the staff of the state attorney general. There he developed a specialty in the state securities laws. In 1923, he joined Moore, Oppenheimer, Peterson & Dickson, a St. Paul law firm, and developed a large appellate practice. He died in 1971 at age eighty-six.
