Viewing John W. Hopp (1868-1931).

John W. Hopp (1868-1931).

John W. Hopp practiced law in Preston, Minnesota, the seat of Fillmore County, for forty years following his graduation from the University of Minnesota College of Law in 1891. Like many lawyers of this period he became fully engaged in public service besides building a law practice. He served as mayor of Preston, ten years as county attorney and one term as state senator, 1919-1923. He died on May 30, 1931, aged sixty-five. The Preston Times editorialized:

"Deceased had served his town as Mayor, his county as Attorney, his state as Senator, and as the latter was one of its leaders. He was looked upon for years as the village spokesman and was called upon times without number, responding willingly. Preston has lost one of its outstanding citizens, one who stood for the better things in life."
