Viewing In Memoriam: Judge Eugene St. Julien Cox (1834-1898).

In Memoriam: Judge Eugene St. Julien Cox (1834-1898).

Eugene St. Julien Cox served as a judge of the Ninth Judicial District from January 1877 to March 1882, when he was convicted by the Minnesota Senate of seven impeachable offenses and evicted from office.

On April 1, 1891, the Minnesota Legislature passed a Joint Resolution vacating, cancelling and expunging from their Journals all records of Judge Cox's impeachment.

Judge Cox died on November 3, 1898, at age sixty-four, in Los Angeles, California. Obituaries were published in Minnesota newspapers, and a Memorial by the Los Angeles County Bar Association was presented in Superior Court on November 9, 1898.

Posted here are obituaries from Minnesota newspapers, the 1891 "Expungement Resolution" of the Legislature, the bar memorial of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and photographs of the home of Judge Cox in St. Peter, now a museum maintained by the Nicollet County Historical Society.
