It also listed the fees for certain claims and quoted excerpts from state exemption laws. This document may have been printed and distributed by U. S. Land Offices and state or county officials to potential homesteaders. It refers to several federal land laws---the Pre-emption Act of 1841 and the Timber Culture Acts---that were repealed in 1891. Statistics on the "Business of the U. S. Land Offices" in 1878 appear in an Appendix. |
