Viewing Putnam W. Locke (1831-1891).Putnam W. Locke (1831-1891).Little is known about "Judge" Putnam Webster Locke, who relocated to St. Paul in the late 1880s. Where, when and on what court he served are not known. He was a Presbyterian, a Mason and a Democrat. He made a good impression on others. After he died on November 22, 1891, at age sixty, the Ramsey County Bar Association convened and adopted resolutions in his memory that were short on specifics. These proceedings to honor a man who was unknown to most other lawyers, reveal how closely-knit the county bar was at this time. The memorial tells as much about the bar as it does the deceased. |
