In January 1892, the St. Paul Dispatch newspaper published an oversized book, "Illustrated St. Paul, A Souvenir of the St. Paul Dispatch." It was composed of sections on industries and professions in the city, including the legal profession.
"The Bar and Bench of Ramsey County" begins with a numbing chronicle of early courts and lawyers by Charles Flandrau that is a faintly revised version of an article he published eleven years earlier. Following this are profiles of fifty-six lawyers and one law firm---Davis, Kellogg & Severance. Future students of the history of the bar in this state will be most interested in the description of the interior of the offices of this firm and a photograph of its "grand library."
Lawyers profiled are: Horace Ransom Bigelow, Henry L. Moss, Henry J. Horn, John M. Gilman, Greenleaf Clark, William Pitt Murray, James K. Humphrey, Samuel R. J. McMillan, Wescott Wilkin, John B.
